This Affordable, Circa-2005 Uniden Model Is Functionally Identical to the Current (Outwardly Revamped) Model CXAI5698

Pros: Affordability. Dependability. Backlit LCD. Clear-sounding digital answerer. Can record brief conversations (albeit with intermittent beeping).

Cons: Only 10 speed-dial numbers (unless_you_have "caller-ID"). No speakerphone in cordless handset (unlike the corded base).

The Bottom Line: "Like New"/"refurbished" specimens of this not-so-recent model remain available from online vendors. It's a satisfactory corded phone with a likable answerer and LCD; however, its standard speed-dial-number directory's di

Not clever but has all basic features for a corded/cordless phone.

Pros: Receives/makes calls during power failures.

Cons: Call details (name,number,date/time) are not displayed when you playback a message.

The Bottom Line: Need a corded/cordless/Answering machine combination in a less crowded frequency range and don't need expandable system $$$? Dorm student? Give it a try.

Americans Buying Communist-Vietnamese Phones That RECORD Two-party Conversations? [What Would President Nixon Say? ("BLEEP!")]

Pros: Remarkably superior sound quality of recorded messages/announcements/conversations. (Regarding its various other likable features, read review!)

Cons: Non-subscribers to caller-ID can only store a measly 10 "speed-dial" numbers. Cordless handset lacks speakerphone.

The Bottom Line: It's basically Uniden's previous model CXAI5198 with a welcome (albeit purely cosmetic) complete makeover. See my final ("upshot") section for the few things I don't like about this respectable
